Happy Thanksgiving Day 2021

Thanksgiving Day, an annual national holiday in the United States and Canada, celebrates the harvest and other blessings of the past year. It is a time to celebrate the things we are grateful for and reflect on all that is good. With that in my mind, and 2021 being such a frustrating year with COVID restrictions and being kept apart from our families, we wanted to share a moment to reflect on the positives, which it can be easy to lose sight of.

This year, it will be celebrated on Thursday, November 25th! For us, three things to be truly grateful for are:

- Our health

- The amazing attractions, park and facilities for children in Singapore, as there is always something to do.

- Our Singapore families built upon friendships that have supported us throughout the year, many of which have been made through NMSG!

Traditionally friends and family gather around the table with their families and fill their plates with turkey, cranberry sauce, and stuffing (and a personal favourite – pumpkin pie!). Here are some ideas to help inspire you to celebrate this year, so whether you are American or Canadian or not, why not take a moment with your loved ones and give thanks this 2021.

Feeling festive, but you’re not negotiating PCR tests and a ticket on a VTL flight back to the United States this Thanksgiving? Don’t worry; there is still plenty to do to help you celebrate here with your family on the little red dot.

Celebrate it out and about

Despite current Covid-19 restrictions, eating out to mark the holiday is still possible. Though the family will be split across tables into twos, you enjoy an “American” meal out at a highly recommended restaurant - Yardbird at Marina Bay Sands. This venue is kid-friendly, so even if all can’t sit together, the whole family can enjoy the taste of home.

If you prefer getting out and about, Honeycombers is hosting a Thanksgiving fair this year. It will be held on the 6th and 7th of November at Sprout Hub, Singapore. This is a chance to support local businesses and get some gifts ahead of the Christmas season. You’ll find decorative pieces for the home as well as toys for the kids on sale. Besides shopping, you will also find a cafeteria for yourself and the kids to have snacks and drinks. To keep the kids occupied, there will be balloon sculptures and face painting.

Celebrate at home

If you feel like staying at home this Thanksgiving, the restaurant Wolfgang’s Steakhouse Singapore is offering a turkey dinner with all the trimmings. It comes in at just under $200, so it’s not exactly budget-friendly, but it might be worth it if you don’t want to split the family up across tables, and you can invite two others to your home to enjoy the meal. This is the second year in a row that this restaurant is offering home service. They also throw in a free carving set, Yay!

After the festivities are done, Black Friday is another tradition which is popular with Thanksgiving. Look out for money saving deals at all your usual favourite stores. From personal experience in 2020, we were able to save $150 on a Doona+ stroller from Motherswork. Other parent-favourite stores in Singapore will also be running similar promotions on essentials for life in Singapore with kids. So keep your eyes open!
